Not Another DJ Page!

Well, yes, it is.

Gecko is a 30-something (at time of going to print) geek (duh) straight (sorry) girl (yep) who got the radio bug at university (in 2001) and utterly failed to do anything about it in the intervening decade. She also talks about herself in the third person and (as you may have noticed) has a penchent for overuse of brackets (that's these things).

That changes NOW.

Well, the doing something about being a radio DJ. The rest I'm keeping pretty much the same.

While on air I'll be lurking in /radio as DJGecko and that's where any prizes will come from. I also run as JennaF and between the two I spend altogether too much time in Loathingland.

Music will mostly consist of classic rock, but may also include pagan folk, stuff I heard a band busking with on the street, classical covers of modern pop mulch, some guy I found on youtube and my friends singing around a campfire while dressed as elves. If it sucks, send me something else! :)

Games will be largely whatever randomosity I come up with between shows and may include trivia, guessing games, I-spy, Where in the Kingdom is DJGecko, treasure hunts... and if the prizes suck, send me something else! (you see where I'm going with this) UPDATE: Games are also utterly sporadic and it may be weeks (or months) between contests.

OK so it's about time I updated this bit. Things changed. My current shows are Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, 5-8am on the schedule (to me, that means 10am-1pm BST) and are pretty random in theme. If you have an idea for a theme feel free to get in touch - I can't garuntee I'll use your idea, but I'll at least consider it ;) So far we've had "what music means to me" type things, music in communities, many shows of linking every song to the next by keyword-in-the-title, Awareness campaigns, and The Alphabet.

As I say every show, I am always on the lookout for new stuff. Whether it's introducing me and/or my listeners to an artist they may not have heard before, giving airtime to listener's covers and original work recorded in a basement, random mashups, stuff you found on youtube... if it isn't rap or screaming, I will play it once. If I don't hate it, I will add it to the general rotation of random stuff and you'll get to hear it more often. A request is for life, not just for one show! I generally ask for tracks (in MP3 format so that SAM will play it, and preferably with at least a minimum metadata of title and artist) to be emailed to me at KoLDJGecko(at)gmail(dot)com. This is so that I have all my downloadable tracks in one place. If I don't grab the song during the show, I can just go to the email and grab down the songs when I have time over the weekend and have a listen, and work them into later shows. My organisation skills suck and having a bunch of links to pages, drop boxes etc really is harder for me to keep track of. I have a billion tabs open already, and I am far more likely to close a random weblink than I am my emails!
